The Old Market Odyssey is a 4 week podcast project for young people who want to learn new skills in radio and music production, where they will be able to mix their own creative interpretation of Bristol's thriving Old Market area with real life stories gathered through research and interviews.
The content will be brought together to create a radio podcast that will be made available to download via the Trinity Centre & Ujima websites.
During the project participants will gain real insight into working within the industry through meeting radio and music professionals. Drawing upon his personal and employment networks the course leader, musician and sound editor David Thomas, will introduce participants to media professionals working for organisations such the 2000 Trees Festival & Arctangent Festival, Aardman Animations, BIMM (Bristol Institute of Modern Music) & The Rock Project Bristol.
The project will suit young people with an interest in their local area: music or radio production and in creativity generally. We are looking to recruit two groups of young 11-15 and 16-21 yrs old and have allocated up to 7 spaces for each group.
All participants will gain practical and technical experience that is relevant to working within the music & media industry. These will include:
- Planning a radio interview,
- Interview techniques
- Creating a original jingles/stings
- Using microphone and equipment
- Research methods
- Recording on location

The project will be delivered through weekly Monday sessions between July 28th and August 25th, 11am-3pm
